Eco-Friendly Jellyfish Craft

Using Leftover Plastic Bags to Create A Vibrant Jellyfish

Introduction

  • Create your own vibrant jellyfish simply by using a paper plate and strips of leftover plastic bags!

  • This craft allows you to reuse common items like plastic bags, preventing them from ending up in landfills and polluting the environment.

  • Age group: 6-12

Materials Needed

Required materials

  • 1 paper plate

  • Plastic bags

  • Scissors

  • Tape

Optional materials

  • Decorative paper

  • Markers

  • Colored pencils

Instructions

Step 1: Cut the Paper Plate in Half

  • Use a scissor to cut the paper plate in half. You will be using half of a paper plate to make the top part of the jellyfish that is shaped like an umbrella (known as the bell).

  • Save the other half to create another jellyfish!

Step 2: Cut strips of plastic bags

  • Locate a section of a plastic bag and cut long, rectangular strips of it. These strips will be used to create the jellyfish’s tentacles and oral arms.

  • You may cut multiple plastic bags with different colors to produce a more vibrant jellyfish

  • The size of the strips can vary depending on how you want the jellyfish to look!

Step 3: Putting everything together

  • Flip the paper plate to the back and tape each strip of plastic bag onto the paper plate to create the jellyfish

Step 4: Final Touches

  • Feel free to decorate the jellyfish by drawing or adding decorative paper to the head of the jellyfish!

Eco-Tip

  • Save the leftover pieces to make another jellyfish or another eco-friendly project!
